“Gabinete de curiosidades” (2016)

Desde que díez+zeíd surgieron han venido nombrando su trabajo de diversas maneras, como cosas, epigramas, poemas objeto, divertimentos…; pero ha sido ahora, gracias a la invitación para presentar su obra en la Galería Lilliput de Vigo, cuando, gracias a la peculiaridad tipológica de su espacio expositivo, han llegado a tomar conciencia del auténtico carácter que tienen sus piezas; estas toman plena carta de naturaleza como integrantes de un verdadero Gabinete de curiosidades, nombre que precisamente han querido dar a esta muestra.

Habiéndose sentido siempre incómodos siendo posicionados en el ámbito del arte, y entendiendo perfectamente que no se trata de diseño, al menos tal y como ellos mismos lo interpretan en su otra faceta creativa, la proyectual, como díez+díez diseño, es en la calificación de lo extraño, lo paradójico, lo raro donde su obra se siente plenamente representada y legitimada para interpelar al espectador, buscando provocar en él un gesto de sorpresa, de duda (o de certeza), una sonrisa…, en definitiva, una complicidad.

From their beginning, díez+zeíd have given different names to their work: things, epigrams, object poems, divertimenti, etc.; but it has been now, thanks to an invitation to present their work at Lilliput gallery and due to the uniqueness of its exhibition space, that they have become aware of the true character of their pieces; they acquire their true nature when forming part of a Cabinet of curiosities, which is the name of this show.

 

Díez+zeíd feel uncomfortable when placed in the art field, and they perfectly understand that their work cannot be considered design, at least in the sense of their projects as díez+díez. It is when characterizing the strange, the paradox, or the unusual that díez+zeíd’s work is fully depicted and legitimised to approach the visitors, trying to get a gesture of surprise, doubt (or certainty), a smile, …, and ultimately, their sympathy.
